Shawn Skeir

Shawn Skeir has been a figure on the Canadian art scene for over two decades. His paintings, murals and drawings have garnered recognition and representation in Toronto, Montreal, Quebec City and Los Angeles. Skeir’s distinctively vibrant artwork can be found in public and private collections including the collections of Artscape, the Daniels Corporation,  the RJ Fleck Collection, and Great Gulf.   Shawn Skeir's purposefully directed brushwork and design-focused artistic techniques create an unusual visual resonance in imagery that appears to move and shimmer, engaging viewers with their lively physicality. In all of his series, “Faces”, “Weaving Landscapes” and “DNA Landscapes”, Shawn Skeir is drawing on his graphic design background in that the works all begin with a relatively rigid template. Within each series, Skeir explores how his self-imposed motives are in fact catalysts to inventive thinking rather than limitations to it. The geometric pattern of the “DNA Landscapes” for instance allows for limitless variations in texture and colour, and by extension each painting becomes a unique environment that immerses the viewer in its ambiguous and evocative depths.
